Why This Matters

These funds were raised through a prior fiscal sponsorship and the hard work of Valdez organizers. While the original committee has since disbanded, we know that local efforts to support the LGBTQIA2S+ community in Valdez continue.

Although no formal successor was named and no legal documentation exists to transfer the sponsorship, the purpose of these funds remains unchanged: to uplift and resource LGBTQIA2S+ organizing in Valdez.

This grant was created to carry that purpose forward in a way that is transparent, accessible, and grounded in care. It ensures that the remaining balance goes directly to community efforts—not left in limbo.

Any funds not awarded or spent by December 31, 2025, will be redirected into Identity’s Health Equity Fund—a mutual aid initiative that helps uninsured and underinsured LGBTQIA2S+ Alaskans access healthcare.
